What's Going On?



If you've been a bit confused today, I don't blame you, but I thought I'd shove this post in to explain.
At the beginning of this year, I thought I'd get back into blogging. And well, 8 months later I've decided to do it again.
Because the post was a roundup of books I'd read in January I wanted to "catch up" with all the months so the posts that will be coming give you a much better idea of my book reading this year.
There will of course be other things, but writing and publishing the posts as though I'd done them every month has given me time to stretch out the old fingers into typing and the brain into a bit more of a writing gear.
We'll see how long I keep this up for.
It's not that I don't enjoy blogging, but I find the time I do have, I prefer to do nothing. Quite literally. I mean how can I do book posts, if I don't read?
Hmm, anyway.

This is a just a heads up and an explanation as to the posts those merry few who still follow me may have seen in your preferred RSS reader of choice. Those on bloglovin' probs won't have seen them, or this for a while because when you don't post for 9 months, it takes forever to catch new posts.

Keep those eyes peeled.

Only 4 books this month? What's been doing on? Turns out some books are harder to get through than others. Pompeii by Mary Beard really gives a sense of what Pompeii was like from the archaeological evidence we now have. While it's lovely to watch Kit Harington in the film if you want actually fact on the subject, you can't go wrong with this book. Antony by Allan Massie . A shorter book than I expected, but non-the-less packed with details. Told from the point of view of his secretary, Antony is supposedly dictating his memoirs, but his secretary ends up telling most of it himself. The King's Gambit [or SPQR #1] by John Maddox Roberts . Once I found this series I've been waiting for a long time to get my hands on it. Thinking I might find it in a charity shop [nope] and waiting for the price flux on amazon to be reasonable I finally got my hands on the first book and I wasn't disappointed. Antiques - Oswestry

Something you may not know about me [depends how long you'e been around] is that I like antiques and antique fairs. Oswestry at the Park Hall Showground is a regular event for me, with 4 a year, we usually make it to 2. Bargain Hunt often film there too, and we've seen 3 lots of filming over the years. Yesterday we got to see Thomas Plant and Anita Manning filming. We've perhaps become more selective over the years, with a dwindling space in the house to put anything, and so we didn't pick up a lot; but it's something to do, get out of the house for even if we didn't buy anything. It's also an excuse for a Costa when we get back as our railway station has one. Next weekend is Shrewsbury, and I'll be blogging about that one then! P.s. "We" is my mum and me. P.p.s.
